"I love the Weekly Quiz and use it with pupils and staff at my school. What a great way to encourage youngsters to follow the news! I am a news and current affairs addict so this is right up my street"
Simon Lewis St Andrew's School, Woking Thanks for organising the current events quiz. At last I can use current events in my classroom in an organised and controlled way without having to spend ages preparing it. We can expand or condense the quiz as much as time allows in any week. Kay Vincent The Gardens School Thank you for this wonderful invention – the current events quiz. It is brilliant and we have not missed a week. I use it with my IWB so we don’t even need to destroy the rainforest to use it. Thanks again and looking forward to next term!! Corinne Morris St Josephs Primary My children and their families are loving it. My class take it home as a weekly challenge which they work on as a family. A great way to get the children interested in current affairs. St Thomas Primary I work at a Pupil Referral Unit for students aged 11-14 years. Your Quiz is the highlight of our week and is the only time we can successfully (and safely!) bring them altogether into the same room, last thing on a Friday afternoon. We even have a 'ring a teacher' life line, which the students really buy into! I sometimes do the quiz with students individually too, and it's been great to see their general knowledge, along with their self-esteem when they've done well, improving week by week. A lot of the students are permanently excluded from school and as such, sometimes have to travel a great distance into the school in a taxi. Unbelievably, some of them are now listening to the news broadcasts on the radio during these journeys instead of listening to their ipods. The best compliment I have had is when another teacher commented on how interesting the pupils are becoming and how refreshing it is to have a sensible discussion with them on what is happening to the news - praise indeed! Sue Toudup Chess Valley Grange PRU As the end of the term draws near I would like to let you know how much we have enjoyed your quizzes. I download them every Monday morning and print off one hard copy in the staffroom to be referred to by whoever wants and put a copy on our staff intranet. The teachers are using the quizzes in a variety of ways, e.g chopping them up and matching the answers to the questions, research groups etc and we put one question a week in our newsletter with the answer the following week. Really a great resource and something we were talking about doing before I got your email last year so Well Done and Thanks! Melody Wilson |
"Our children throughout the school have thoroughly enjoyed engaging with the quizzes, and some of the content has inspired interesting conversations and discussions among staff and children alike.
Please thank all the team for their continued efforts." Marie Forsyth St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School "Both students and teachers really enjoy the quiz and it has encouraged students to take a greater interest in the news. Personally I estimate it has saved over 4 hours teacher preparation a week across the school and improved the quality and consistency of registrations." Jon Ryan Heston Community School, Heston I have just paid the Newsteadwood School subscription. I was very pleased with the feedback about the quiz from colleagues at the end of last term, it was very positive. Many have seen their tutor groups reading newspapers more regularly. Some colleagues have set the quiz up as a weekly competition and some use it at a team competition. It has increased interest and awareness of current affairs, so all in all ... a success. Newstead Wood School, Orpington We have been very impressed with the quiz. We use it to help our students to realise that here is more going on in the world than what happens in Granville. Thanks for your efforts. Delany College My gifted students have loved the challenge of "different" homework. I set it as optional and am pleasantly surprised how many students do it. Others like it as well. Great for self esteem that they think they are doing the ‘hard’ work! St Declan's, Penshurst "Simply, loving these quizzes ..... they save so much time and are really attracting more pupils into our school library. I now use these quizzes with all year groups launching Monday of each week. They have been so popular that I am now running low on prizes! Thank you so much." V Dewhurst Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Good on you, keep the quizzes coming. I have a running total on the go with my classes and boy oh boy, the tension is building for the end of term score! Ryan Gaffaney, St Johns College I just want to thank you so much for you hard work and efforts this term to bring such wonderful and wide ranging ideas and information to my class. All my students are so into the quiz and look forward each week to it. Keep up the awesome work you are doing and know that it is very much appreciated and used. Emile Valkenborg Just thought I’d let you know my class is loving doing the quizzes each week. Had parent meetings last night and they commented on how the children now watch the news and read the papers. They were shocked! Luella Donaldson, Grove School |
